LAPSWV Sponsors the Gabriel Project

LAPSWV - Gabriel Project Donations - 2009 - Upclose of donated supplies

Executive Committee Members of Legal Assistants/Paralegals of Southern West Virginia (“LAPSWV”) met with Regina Barido and Constance Weber on Monday, December 14, 2009, to present a check for $250 and many needed supplies.  Ms. Barido is Chapter Coordinator for the Metro Valley Chapter of the Gabriel Project – a faith-based non-profit organization.  Ms. Weber, an attorney with the Charleston firm of Kay Casto & Chaney PLLC, is on the Commission of Metro Valley Chapter and a member of the Board of Directors for Gabriel Project of WV, Inc.

The Gabriel Project started in Wheeling 11 years ago and, while the main office is still in Wheeling, the project operates through a network of churches of all faiths throughout the state with 5 additional regional offices in Summersville, Pursglove, Inwood, Parkersburg, and Charleston.  The Project provides baby supplies – cribs, diapers, wipes, formula, car seats, and baby clothing to parents who find themselves struggling in a variety of situations.  The Project also offers practical baby knowledge for first-time mothers as well as maternity clothes and rides to doctor’s appointments.

In addition to the monetary donation, LAPSWV provided the Gabriel Project with diapers, wipes, blankets, bottles, and hats and mittens.  Last year, LAPSWV filled and delivered Christmas stockings to hospital pediatric units in Charleston and Huntington, and in Ashland, Kentucky.

LAPSWV, an affiliated association of the National Association of Legal Assistants, Inc. (“NALA”)  is a non-profit organization established in 2004 in Charleston and Huntington, West Virginia, to promote high standards in the legal assistant profession, establish networking resources for legal assistants/paralegals, and provide integrity in the legal community. LAPSWV also contributes to the community by participating in a number of charitable programs.  LAPSWV strives to raise professional standards in the legal assistant/paralegal profession by providing opportunities for personal growth and development through educational experiences and the networking with other professionals.
