NALA Campus LIVE! - 2012 Spring Program Begins Soon!

The spring is fast approaching! And that means that NALA Campus LIVE will soon begin! This spring's line up offers something for everyone. The first class is January 27, Blue Book Review of Citing. Classes in February include Spanish for paralegals, electronic discovery, paralegals as jury consultants, and Certified Paralegal Exam preparation classes. Details of the NALA Campus LIVE line up for spring 2012 may be found on the NALA web site, at www.nala.org/spring2012schedule.aspx.

Registration fees are $80 per course for NALA members, and $105 for non-members. Active members ... your NALA CLE Gift Certificate will cover the cost of one course.

2012 Annual Meeting News!

Active members take note! The January issue of FACTS & FINDINGS, features information you will need regarding candidacy, voting during the 2012 annual meeting, and the official notice of the annual meeting of members. Information and links to the declaration of candidacy forms, and additional information, for those interested in running for national officer or director of regions 1, 5, 6, 7 and 9.
Information about voting and filing your designation of proxy if you are a voting member and unable to attend the annual meeting.

Deadlines for filing membership resolutions, and proposed amendments to the NALA bylaws.

Line up for July 2012 is Impressive!

This year, the NALA summer educational programs will offer a wide variety of advanced educational programs!

Educational programs feature three-day advanced sessions on Family Law, E-Discovery, Commercial Bankruptcy, Principles of Real Estate, and the popular Personal Injury and Essential Skills Institutes.

In addition, the Saturday morning session will feature the NALA Member Exchange presentations. The Member Exchange presentations are selected by the NALA Continuing Education Council from proposals submitted by NALA members. It is an honor to be selected for a Member Exchange presentation, and a great way for NALA members to learn from each other. The rest of the Saturday program features professional development for paralegals, led by Vicki Voisin, ACP, and Vicki Kunz, ACP, both past presidents and paralegals experienced in mentoring, career development and management. This is a MUST participate session!

And the best part ...

NALA is planning a reception in the Tree Tops and Lied Jungle of the Omaha Henry Doorly Zoo on Thursday evening, July 26. Although the Zoo will be closed while we are there, NALA members who attend will be able to visit the entire jungle area during the reception. This is a great opportunity to visit and mingle with each other as well as our jungle friends!

While there will be a nominal fee for those who choose to attend this event, it is primarily underwritten by the generosity of sponsors. To honor its paralegals and welcome NALA to Omaha, Mutual of Omaha Law Operation is pleased to sponsor NALA's night at the zoo. Mutual of Omaha is a full-service, multi-line provider of insurance and financial services products and has been proud to call Omaha its home for nearly 103 years. Other sponsors of this event include the Nebraska Paralegal Association, a NALA affiliated association since 1980. Yes, that's 32 years of being a part of NALA.

The Omaha Zoo is recognized as one of the best zoos in the nation, vying with the San Diego Zoo for the number 1 designation!

Something new for all Certified Paralegals!

Certified Paralegals now have 24 hour access to their individual account showing the continuing education credits recorded to date. The report provides this in summary form, as well as the detail of credits recorded per event, and the expiration date of the certification. The information also shows credits recorded in substantive areas, non-substantive areas, and ethics credits. The page has a link to contact Headquarters with questions by phone or e-mail, and a link to the NALA website pages that describe the CLE requirements in greater detail. The information cannot be modified nor does it include personal contact information.

The reports work on smart phones and tablets and the screen resizes for optimal viewing on these devices. For iPhone and iPad users you may save the web site on your home screen, and a NALA icon will appear. To do this:

iPhone: Load the CLE screen on your Safari, touch icon at the bottom of the iPhone screen and then touch "Add to Home Screen." You may add more to the name of the site if you wish. Then touch "add."

iPad: Load the CLE screen on your Safari, touch icon at the top of the screen. Then follow the same instructions as iPhone.

Devices using Android operating systems and other browsers also permit users to designate favorites for quick access.

To login, NALA members should use the NALA Net Login name as the user name, and member number as your password. Your login information appears at the top of this newsletter. Login information will be provided by e-mail newsletter to non-members of NALA who are Certified Paralegals.

January 1-31, 2012 (currently testing)

May 1-31, 2012 (application deadline: April 1, 2012)
